FAQ
What is the difference between a Headshot and Professional Portrait?
While both Headshots and Professional Portraits can be used for professional and official purposes, such as marketing, business websites, and social media profiles. Headshots are generally more straightforward and focus on the face, while portraits can be more artistic and expressive, showcasing the subject in a variety of poses (including full body shots). In my sessions, I will usually shoot a range to give you more to select from unless you are specifically only looking for a headshot.
What should I wear for a professional portrait session?
Wear solid colors or simple patterns that complement your skin tone and draw attention to your face. Avoid loud, flashy clothing, patterns, logos, graphics, and illustrations. Darker colors are always a good option. It is also a good idea to wear clothes that are reasonably fitted and show your shape, especially in your top half.
Consider your profession and the type of clients or companies you want to engage with. Dress like you’re trying to impress your ideal customer or a prospective client.
What should I do with my hair and makeup?
Keep your hair and makeup simple and natural. Enhance your natural features. Avoid extreme, lustrous, or reflective makeup. Use a matte foundation that matches your skin tone and blends well with the skin color on your chest and neckline. Don’t apply foundation too thick; it will cake and enhance wrinkles.Wear lipstick with a slight shimmer or gloss. Matte lipstick & Dark Tones make your lips look thinner. Stick to neutral tones for eye shadow and don't use heavy fake lashes (they are heavy and will close your eyes).
Do use a studio or go on location?
In lead up to our shoot, we will discuss the goals of your photo session. Depending on your profession, the industry standard is different depending on your line of work. People in more creative fields like actors or writers might prefer a naturally lit photo on location, whereas a business professional might need a studio lit location for their LinkedIn profile. In general, I love naturally lit photos on location, but for larger groups it is best to do them in a studio setting for controlled lighting and consistency. I am able to bring my lighting gear and backdrop to your office/location of choice as part of the package.
What is the booking process and payment policy? Do sessions require a deposit?
Booking Process
1. Send me a message through my website (see above)
2. Hop on a call or discuss details over email
3. Once we have agreed on your goals and details of your shoot, I'll send over an invoice for the deposit and contract for you to sign. A date will not be held until payment is received.
Deposit Requirements:
- 50% non-refundable deposit required to secure your date
- Remaining balance due on the day of the shoot
- Invoice will be emailed to you
Am I allowed to reschedule?
To secure your photography session, a non-refundable 50% deposit is required. This deposit ensures your selected date is reserved and covers potential scheduling complexities.
If you need to reschedule, you have one opportunity to do so with at least 14 days' notice, during which your deposit can be applied as credit toward a new date. However, I cannot guarantee availability for a new session. Rescheduling with less than 14 days' notice incurs a $150 fee, and rescheduling the day before or day of the shoot will result in forfeiting your entire deposit and requiring a completely new booking.
In the event you cannot attend the rescheduled session, your deposit will be lost. You'll have 30 days from your initial notification to select a new appointment date. When booking, you'll be asked to acknowledge and agree to these policies.
Please note: I cannot offer refunds for clients who book without fully understanding or reviewing the policies. If you have any questions or uncertainties, I encourage you to email me for clarification.
What is your cancellation policy? Why can't I get a refund?
I maintain a limited client roster to ensure the highest quality of service. Last-minute cancellations impact my business significantly because:
1. Blocked dates prevent other potential clients from booking
2. Some locations have strict cancellation policies with associated fees
My commitment to you:
1. I totally understand that unexpected changes happen
2. If someone from my waiting list can take your spot, I'll gladly help you reschedule
